North Andover police officer serving court order shoots off-duty officer

An off-duty North Andover police officer was shot by an officer serving a court order Monday night, officials confirmed.

The “armed confrontation” took place around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and North Andover Police Chief Charles Gray said in a joint statement.

It is not clear what led up to the confrontation, but Tucker and Gray confirmed that a North Andover police officer fired their department-issued gun while “serving a court order” at the home of an off-duty officer.

The off-duty officer was taken to a Boston-area hospital for treatment of their injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officials did not identify either officer involved.
