A final round of rain showers will move across Massachusetts on Tuesday morning, as cold temperatures wrack the state and the nor’easter moves out.
The rain will be heaviest in Eastern Massachusetts, including in Boston and on Cape Cod & the Islands. This could bring up to two inches of additional precipitation before the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Winds are expected to be blustery with gusts up to 25 mph throughout the morning, keeping the clouds low and rain drizzling.
Skies will begin to clear by the afternoon, with Central and Western Massachusetts drying out first, forecasters said. Some sunshine could be possible by late afternoon.
But temperatures across the state may struggle to reach 60 degrees during the day on Tuesday. In Boston and Worcester, highs are expected to be 58 and 56 degrees, respectively, while Springfield may just edge past with a forecast high of 61.
This cold air is expected to linger through most of the week, forecasters said. By Thursday, high temperatures may drop all the way into the upper 40s and low 50s in some parts of the state.
Thursday may also bring more rain showers to Cape Cod and the Islands, as high winds overtake the state. Coastal wave heights could range between 4 and 10 feet as winds reach 25 mph, and areas like the Berkshires could see 40 mph gusts, forecasters said.
However, forecasters predict a 25-degree upward swing in temperatures this weekend and lots of sunshine. Temperatures may rebound all the way to the upper 60s and low 70s — a dramatic shift from the weekday forecast.
