MESILLA, N.M. — A Doña Ana County sheriff’s deputy has died after his patrol vehicle collided with the rear of a semi-truck on Interstate 10, KFOX 14 reported.
Deputy Antonio Aleman, 33, was on duty when the crash occurred on July 8 near Avenida de Mesilla, according to a county spokesperson. He was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center, where medical personnel attempted life-saving measures. He was later pronounced dead.
Aleman had served with the sheriff’s office since April 2021. He is survived by his wife and two children.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office described Aleman as a “valuable asset” to the de and said he would be deeply missed.
The office said funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date and extended thanks to multiple partnering agencies, including Doña Ana Fire Rescue, New Mexico State Police, Border Patrol and emergency services in Las Cruces, for their support.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
