N.H. man suspected of killing father over 20 years ago arrested in Mass., will be extradited

A New Hampshire man was arrested in Saugus in connection with the death of his father in 2003, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella’s office said Tuesday.

Douglas Herlihy, 39, faces one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his father, Paul Herlihy. After an arrest warrant was issued on Monday, Douglas Herlihy was arrested in his home in Saugus, Massachusetts, on Tuesday afternoon, Formella’s office said in a statement.

He also faces a charge of being a fugitive from justice and is being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned in Essex County Superior Court before he is extradited to New Hampshire.

Paul Herlihy was killed by blunt force trauma inside his home in Milford, New Hampshire, between Aug. 23 and 27, 2003, Formella’s office said. His death was ruled to be a homicide.

Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and the Massachusetts State Police assisted Formella’s office and the New Hampshire State Police in Douglas Herlihy’s arrest.
