Much cooler Friday ahead of dry, seasonable stretch of weather in Mass.

Temperatures across Massachusetts are expected to stay well below normal for Aug. 1 on Friday, with highs in the low to mid-70s.

National Weather Service forecasters anticipate rain sticking around on Friday morning. The South Coast could see heavy rain starting at around 8 a.m. The rain should stick around until around noon when it moves offshore.

Sunshine should take the place of the rain, developing from Northwest to Southeast on Friday afternoon. Winds blowing from the northeast will keep temperatures down across southern New England — forecasters expect highs about 10 degrees below normal.

With the rain moved out, it should remain dry for much of Massachusetts on Saturday, with temperatures remaining below normal. It will be slightly warmer than Friday thanks to fewer clouds.

A dry and seasonable weather pattern will take hold beginning Saturday night into Sunday, and into much of next week. More uncertainty lingers at the end of the week, with the possibility for another round of rainfall, although forecasters don’t expect much heat and humidity.
