A 4-year-old boy who drowned in Brockton last month was remembered in his obituary as a joyful young boy who loved life.
Police were called to a home on Sunset Avenue around 3 p.m. on July 13 for a reported drowning. The boy, Hendrix Cooley-Walker, was rushed to a hospital but died hours later, around 1:30 a.m. on July 14.
“Though his time with us was brief, the love he gave and the light he brought will remain with us forever,” the boy’s obituary reads.
The obituary recalls Hendrix’s “big, beautiful brown eyes,” which “held a world of curiosity, kindness, and laughter.” The boy lit up every room he entered and his smile melted hearts, the obituary recalled.
Hendrix loved simple things like chasing bubbles, collecting rocks, running, climbing and exploring his surroundings.
“He was gentle and loving, with a spirit far beyond his years—a little hand always ready to hold yours, and a giggle that could chase away the clouds,” the obituary reads. “His memory will live on in every whispered bedtime story, every shared smile, and every moment of unexpected joy.”
A celebration of life for Hendrix will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Waitt Funeral Home in Brockton.
“Rest gently, sweet Hendrix. You were our sunshine, our joy, and our greatest gift. You will be loved forever and missed beyond words,” the obituary concludes.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked for gifts to be made to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance.
