Dallas Ritcher, of the McCann Tech boys hockey team, was named as Masslive’s Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
This week’s Athlete of the Week is brought to you by UMass Lowell, recognized as the No. 1 Best Value Public University in the state according to both The Wall Street Journal and U.S. News & World Report.
Ritcher has experienced a memorable senior year. Last month, Ritcher connected with Kaleb Munson for a goal four minutes into the third period against Taconic for his 100th career point.
Aside from that impressive milestone, Ritcher has recorded seven combined hat tricks this season to help McCann Tech produce its best record in program history at 13-1, honors as the Wright League champions, and its first state postseason berth.
“The turnaround has definitely been a combination of things,” Hornets coach Matt Parise said. “We have a core group of players who have matured and taken ownership of the program. And some new faces who have added energy and depth, and a coaching staff that has emphasized accountability and preparation.
“Most importantly, though, the team’s mindset has changed — the players expect to compete and believe in what we’re building. And that belief has made a big difference.”
And during McCann Tech’s regular-season finale on Wednesday against Easthampton, Ritcher posted one goal and one assist to help ensure the Hornets claimed their final eight regular-season games and will enter the upcoming regional postseason on a high note.
