Mass. woman pleads guilty to shooting up her ex-girlfriend’s stepfather’s home twice

A Fall River woman has pleaded guilty to 13 criminal charges connected to shooting up her ex-girlfriend’s stepfather’s home twice last fall, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

On Friday, 27-year-old Dannyshka Figueroa-Bermudez pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to nine counts of attempted assault and battery with a firearm and two counts each of malicious damage to a motor vehicle and improper storage of a firearm, the district attorney’s office said in a press release.

On Sept. 7, 2024, Figueroa-Bermudez’s ex-girlfriend’s stepfather awoke to gunshots outside his home at 98 Raymond St. in Fall River just before dawn, the district attorney’s office said. He soon found that his car had been hit by gunfire six times and that his kitchen window had been struck by bullets three times.

Fall River police responded to the multi-family apartment building and recovered spent shell casings, as well as security video that recorded the gunshots, the district attorney’s office said.

On Oct. 27, 2024, the victim again awoke to gunshots just before dawn, the district attorney’s office said. When he looked out his window, he recognized Figueroa-Bermudez standing outside his home and saw that his car had been hit by gunfire again.

Fall River police responded to the home and recovered numerous shell casings, the district attorney’s office said. Security video from the area showed Figueroa-Bermudez walking down the victim’s driveway and using a gun with a laser sight to fire several rounds at the apartment building’s second floor.

Police obtained a search warrant for Figueroa-Bermudez’s home and found clothing matching that of the suspect seen in the security video, the district attorney’s office said. Investigators seized two guns and a laser sight from the home, as well as ammunition that matched the caliber of all the recovered shell casings from both shootings.

During an interview with police, Figueroa-Bermudez admitted to committing the offenses, the district attorney’s office said. A Fall River Superior Court judge has sentenced her to three to five years in state prison on the charges.

“This is yet another example of senseless violence that could have resulted in severe injury to the occupants of the building,” Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn said in the release. “ … The defendant has demonstrated that she is a danger to the victim and the community and needs to be kept off the streets to protect the public.”
