A 39-year-old North Adams woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation in connection with a crash in Charlemont that killed a 66-year-old man in April 2023, Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan’s office announced.
Melissa Repka was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in jail with nine months to be served and the rest of the sentence suspended while she is on probation for two years. Her driver’s license will be revoked for 15 years as a result of the guilty plea, according to a statement from Sullivan’s office.
During Repka’s change of plea hearing, she said that she and a passenger were headed east on Route 2 as they left Pittsfield on April 12, 2023, according to the statement. Repka admitted that as she pulled out of a rest area near Berkshire East Mountain Resort to make a U-turn and head toward Berkshire County, her car hit Herzig, who was riding east on his motorcycle.
