Mass. has used Medicaid for housing before. What can it tell us amid the shelter crisis?

With the state’s shelters teeming at emergency levels and their funding bleeding out, Massachusetts officials are seeking just about any pot of money that could help.

Gov. Maura Healey is currently awaiting word on whether the federal government will allow the state to provide up to six months of temporary housing assistance – using Medicaid funds – for eligible families and pregnant individuals, who could include newly arrived migrants.
