A dog that police say attacked a 2-year-old on Cape Cod last weekend is under “dangerousness restrictions,” according to police.
On the afternoon of March 31, a 2-year-old was flown to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being bitten by a pit bull mix dog at a home in Wellfleet, Wellfleet police said previously. The attack happened around 2:15 p.m. at 100 East Hill Road, and everyone involved knew each other.
As of Friday, dangerousness restrictions on the dog were still be finalized by Wellfleet Animal Control, but the dog was under mandated quarantine, Wellfleet Deputy Chief Michael Turner told MassLive over email. If the dog’s owner contests the restrictions, a dangerousness hearing will be held for the dog.
Pit bulls are the breed most likely to be involved in dog attacks, according to Forbes. However, the ASPCA’s position on pit bulls highlights the role of socialization in dog aggression, noting that pit bulls are more likely to be bred and raised to be aggressive, and that each dog should be treated as an individual.
