Ukrainian band Kommuna Lux will play the Divine Theater at Gateway City Arts on Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.
The ensemble was founded in 2014 by seven artists who performed in noisy flash mobs across the city of Odessa, Ukraine. The group performs what it calls “Odessa Gangsta Folk,” a unique take on klezmer music.
The band’s appearance at Gateway City Arts is part of their worldwide tour. They have performed in Slovakia, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Israel, and the Netherlands.
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kommuna Lux has been collecting money at all its concerts to honor their city, Ukrainian heroes, and to support humanitarian aid.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available at gatewaycityarts.com.
