WESTFIELD — After being arraigned in connection with four counts of sexual assault, a Level 3 sexual offender was ordered held in custody without the possibility of bail after being found dangerous during a hearing Tuesday in Westfield District Court, according to court records.
Angelo DiPaolo Jr., 54, was charged in early January with one count of assault to commit rape, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, and witness intimidation, according to court records.
Those charges were based on allegations by the victim that DiPaolo Jr. sexually assaulted her multiple times in her apartment, according to police.
Police said the victim told officers that she and DiPaolo Jr. were neighbors and he would occasionally go to the victim’s apartment under the “guise of helping her.”
On several occasions, when DiPaolo Jr. was applying lotion on the victim’s legs to treat a medical condition, he touched her in sexual manner, the victim told police.
The victim also told officers that on one occasion, DiPaolo Jr. tried unsuccessfully to remove her underwear.
He also forced the victim to gratify him sexually, police said.
DiPaolo Jr. also told the victim not to tell anyone about the assaults, including a case worker they shared, according to police.
While DiPaolo Jr. was living in Westfield, his formal address is 77 Maple St., Chicopee.
During his arraignment, he was ordered held without bail pending the outcome of a dangerousness hearing, which was held Tuesday.
In documents submitted to the court by Hampden County Assistant District Attorney Jamie Spinella for the dangerousness hearing, DiPaolo Jr. had been previously charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of vandalizing property.
She also included that he had been convicted on two counts of assault on a child with the intent to commit rape, four counts of indecent assault and battery on child under 14, and one out of rape and abuse of a child, which are the charges listed for DiPaolo Jr. on the commonwealth’s Sex Offender Registry Board.
On each of those charges, he was sentenced to prison for six to eight years, according to the documents submitted by Spinella .
When he may have been released from prison is not included in the court records.
After the dangerousness hearing on Tuesday, DiPaolo Jr. was ordered held for 120 days in the Hampden County House of Correction without bail. He will be eligible for release on June 8, according to court records.
He will return to district court on March 12 for a pretrial hearing.
