Legendary rock band announces farewell tour with Massachusetts stop

Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra is going out with a bang.

“‘The Over and Out Tour,’ the final tour, is coming to the U.S. and it’s going to be out of this world,” the English rock band wrote in an Instagram post. “Join Jeff Lynne’s ELO for a historic night live in concert.”

The tour will include 27 stops, starting in Palm Desert, Calif. on Aug. 24 and ending in Inglewood, Calif. on Oct. 25.

ELO will perform at TD Garden in Boston on September 23. Tickets go on sale starting at 10 a.m., according to the Instagram post.

ELO has been lighting up stages with its “ambitious yet irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography” since forming in Birmingham, England in 1970, AllMusic wrote.

The band has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and four members of ELO, including Lynne, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
