Jalen Ramsey revealed why he threw a punch at Ja’Marr Chase which led to the Steelers cornerback getting ejected.
“He spit on me,” Ramsey told reporters after Pittsburgh’s win. “So, it’s up. I don’t give a (expletive) about football after that, respectfully.”
Chase, however, denied he spit on Ramsey.
“I never opened my mouth to that guy,” Chase said, who later added, “I didn’t spit on nobody.”
Ramsey and Chase both received unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on third-and-1. The two were seen exchanging pleasantries as Cincinnati called a timeout. Before the Bengals ran their fourth-and-1 play, Ramsey grabbed Chase’s facemask and took a swing with his right hand.
The officials ejected Ramsey quickly and he was escorted off the field by a Steelers staff member.
Field view of the altercation appears to show Chase spitting on Ramsey before the latter throws the punch.
CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones said the NFL will look into the accusation.
