The intense heat and humidity that have blanketed the region this week will continue on Thursday, with temperatures likely to cross 90 again, and heat indices climbing over 100 in some parts of Massachusetts.
Both Boston and Springfield are expected to hit highs of 92 on Thursday, with the humidity making it feel even warmer — Springfield could feel like 101. It will be ever so slightly cooler in Worcester, with a high of 88.
Those temperatures have led National Weather Service forecasters to issue a Heat Advisory for much of the state, which expires at 7 p.m. Thursday. The advisory has been in place for days amid the intense heat.
Unlike the rest of the week, which has remained largely dry, National Weather Service forecasters say there is a chance for some showers and storms on Thursday in the morning to mid-afternoon. There is a risk of some isolated storms late in the afternoon or evening as a cold front approaches the region.
Any thunderstorms that do form could bring brief torrential rainfall.
Relief from the heat and humidity arrives later Thursday night, with low temperatures Thursday night falling as low as the 60s.
“This will be followed by mostly sunny [and] beautiful weather for Fri with highs mainly between 80 and 85 and very comfortable humidity levels,” forecasters wrote. “Quite the change from the last few days.”
Temperatures should remain more normal on Saturday, with highs in the 80s and “very comfortable humidity.” Widespread thunderstorms are possible Saturday night or Sunday.
The comfortable trend should continue into next week, with highs sitting in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
