BOSTON — Ahead of an MRI scheduled for Monday, Red Sox starter James Paxton is fearing a serious injury after feeling a “pop” in his calf and leaving his start Sunday in the first inning.
The Red Sox labeled Paxton’s injury a “right calf strain” but there’s clear concern it’s more. Monday’s MRI will give the team answers but it’s a near certainty the veteran starter will be placed on the injured list before the club begins a three-game series with the Rangers on Monday night. He was on crutches in the clubhouse after the game and appeared downcast.
