This is the 10th meeting between these two, with Djokovic holding a 5-4 advantage, counting the 2024 Olympics Final. At the 2025 US Open, Alcaraz knocked of Djokovic, giving him a 3-2 edge in major matches. But in the quarterfinals at last year’s Australian Open, it was Djokovic who came out on top. At the same time, the two other times they met in a major final were at Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and Alcaraz won both of those meetings.
Alcaraz is a six-time Grand Slam winner, most recently claiming the 2025 US Open as well as the 2025 Roland Garros, but falling to No. 2 Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final, falling short of a third straight win at that tournament. He now looks to capture his first Australian Open against the man who defeated Sinner in the semifinals to prevent those two from meeting a fourth straight Grand Slam Final.
Djokovic is looking to add to his record-setting 24 major titles and first since the 2023 US Open, after falling in the semifinals of all four Grand Slams in 2025. He’s already got 10 Australian Opens to his name, which is a record for men, last winning it in 2023, and then losing in the semifinals the last two. His first win came back in 2008, and with a win Sunday, he will have more Australian Open titles than losses in the tournament as he enters with a 99-10 record all time down under.
