‘Honor the Fallen’ captures emotional journey to memorialize fallen officers

By Police1 Staff

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Shortly after the San Bernardino County Peace Officer Memorial in May 2023, members of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard set out across the county to draw attention to specific monuments dedicated to their fallen officers.

During that time, with the help of academy training classes, they attempted to build their biggest memorial yet – a hilltop memorial dedicated to former range instructor Jeremiah MacKay – and the journey was captured on film.

“Honor the Fallen” is a close-up, behind-the-scenes look into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Honor Guard produced by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Employees’ Benefit Association, which represents 3,900-plus public safety personnel.

For four months, Director Christopher Lee and Sheriff’s Deputy John Korzonek spoke to family members of the fallen, captured footage of the monuments and ultimately created a public-facing map to memorialize their fallen officers.

“This film is dedicated to all of those officers who gave their lives while serving our community,” said Lee. “We will never forget their courage, we will always honor their families and we will continue to honor their sacrifices through our dedicated service.”
