Here’s when Worcester voters can listen to and meet the District 1 and 5 candidates

Voters living in Worcester’s first and fifth districts will have two chances in August to listen and talk to some of the candidates running in the upcoming preliminary 2023 municipal election.

The two forums will present several candidates and the current District 5 councilmember. Both forums will also include a trio of panelists, including Radio Worcester Network’s “Talk of the Commonwealth” host Hank Stolz, MassLive’s General Assignment Reporter Kiernan Dunlop and former District 5 councilmember and At-Large City Councilor Gary Rosen.

The candidate forum for District 5 will be held first on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Ibew Local 96 on 242 Mill Str. at 6:30 p.m. It will feature incumbent Etel Haxhiaj and challengers Jose Rivera and Edson Montero.

The second forum will be on Tuesday, Aug. 29 inside 425 Salisbury St., at Notre Dame Academy’s auditorium. District 1 candidates Jenny Pacillo, Larry Shetler and David Peterson are scheduled to appear. All are eying to fill in Sean Rose’s seat, who announced in December 2022 that he will not run for a fourth term.

The panelists encourage voters in both districts and anyone else who’s interested to attend one or both of the candidate forums. Anyone who is unable to attend in person can watch the livestream provided by Radio Worcester at the link here.

The preliminary election is scheduled for Sept. 5.
