Boston restaurant, America’s oldest, named among most legendary in the world

Eating at the best establishments in the world is comparable to visiting the most famous museums, galleries and monuments, according to Taste Atlas.

The outlet, known for its encyclopedia of critically-acclaimed restaurants and food from around the globe, released its list of the “150 Most Legendary Restaurants in the World & Their Iconic Dishes.”

Given Boston’s rich history, it is no surprise that one eatery from the city landed on the coveted list.

That eatery was Union Oyster House. The restaurant is located in the heart of Boston, just a stone’s throw away from historic Faneuil Hall.

The restaurant, whose New England clam chowder was named its iconic dish, is “the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the U.S.,” Taste Atlas said.

“Established in 1826, Union Oyster House in Boston is deeply woven into America’s culinary fabric,” the outlet wrote. “Known for its New England clam chowder, a creamy, hearty soup brimming with clams, potatoes, and onions, this dish encapsulates the quintessential flavors of the Northeastern seaboard.”

Union Oyster House has had only three owners since its inception, according to the restaurant’s website. Joseph Milano Jr. and Mary Ann Milano Picardi have owned the restaurant since 1970.

The restaurant has also received numerous awards and honors like being named North America’s Best Landmark Restaurant by the World Culinary Awards in 2020. More information, including how to make reservations, can be found online.
