It’ll be another warm and humid day across Massachusetts on Thursday, with a round of thunderstorms expected to move across the state in the afternoon and evening.
High temperatures in the state’s three largest cities are expected to reach about 90 degrees, with slightly cooler conditions expected in the Berkshires and on Cape Cod. That heat, combined with moisture in the air and instability, will lead to thunderstorms, which are expected to move through the state from about 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“Parameters are favorable for at least a few isolated severe storms, the main threats being damaging winds and large hail,” National Weather Service forecasters wrote.
Storms are expected to die down after sunset, with the airmass coming in behind them dropping dewpoints down to the 50s. The dropping dewpoints will lead to cooler temperatures than the previous night: in the high 50s or low 60s.
The heat and humidity will move out for the Fourth of July holiday on Friday, with temperatures expected to stay in the low to mid-80s, or even the upper 70s in higher elevations.
“Just in time, a beautiful and more comfortable airmass arrives for much of the holiday weekend,” forecasters wrote.
But the reprieve won’t last that long: temperatures are expected to climb back into the 90s by Sunday. The heat is expected to continue through the start of next work week, with the possibility for thunderstorms on Monday.
