2 injured when fireworks explode during setup for annual display in Mass.

Multiple people were injured Wednesday evening when several fireworks exploded during the setup for Mashpee’s annual fireworks display, officials confirmed.

The explosion happened around 4:37 p.m. at the New Seabury Country Club, the town’s fire department wrote in a Facebook post. In all, eight people were evaluated for injuries by first responders.

Of those eight, one person sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Rhode Island Hospital. Another was taken by ambulance to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries.

A dog was also taken from the scene to receive medical care, the state’s Department of Fire Services confirmed.

“The display was properly permitted, licensed, and inspected, and all potential factors identified so far are accidental in nature,” the department wrote.
