Girls Tennis State Tournament Roundup: Longmeadow, Milton set stage for D-II quarters match

Division II

No. 1 Longmeadow (5), No. 17 Bedford (0)

The top-seeded Longmeadow girls’ tennis team took care of business against No. 17 Bedford by a final score of 5-0 in the Division II Round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon.

Aside from claiming their 44th consecutive win, the outcome also marked the Lancers’ fifth straight shutout and fourth this postseason as they improved to 21-0.

After Sarah Tiru started the match with a straight-set sweep against Ruby Brennan by a score of 6-2, 6-0, second and third singles teammates Bailey Downes (6-1, 6-2) and Kelci Talati (6-0, 6-0) followed suit with their own sweeps to secure Longmeadow the win.

The Lancers will now play No. 8 Milton in the D-II state quarterfinals, with a time and location to be announced.
