Division I

No. 26 Barnstable (3), No. 23 Saint John’s High School-Shrewsbury (1)

No. 23 Saint John’s Shrewsbury suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 26 Barnstable in the D-I Round of 16 contest.

With a hard-fought match, the Pioneers continued to battle for each set but only won the third set, 25-16. For the other three, they fell just short at 28-26, 25-18 and 25-23.

Leading on the stat sheet for Saint John’s Shrewsbury was Francis McGonagle, who tallied 26 kills and 10 digs, while Phil Vignaley recorded eight blocks and three aces. Also, for the Pioneers, Daijon Rondeau had five blocks, four kills, and two aces.

Saint John’s Shrewsbury’s 2025 season comes to a close with a final record of 10-11 and a 6-2 division record.

Division II

No. 1 Agawam (3), No. 16 Bellingham (0)

Top-seeded Agawam excelled on the court on Tuesday, sweeping No. 16 Bellingham in the Division II Round of 16 with a final score of 3-0.

The Brownies played a close first set against the Blackhawks but came on top with a 25-20 edge.

However, in the following sets, Agawam held Bellingham to 13 and 14 points, relying on their momentum and skills to keep the Blackhawks from another close set and ultimately securing the victory.

For the Brownies, Joseph Culhane tallied a team-high 11 kills, with Dennis Nesen just behind him with 10. Eric Nazarets recorded 13 digs, and David Dzhenzherukha chalked up three blocks and 28 assists, all leading Agawam in those respective categories.

With the win, the Brownies’ record boosts to 21-2 as they will advance to the D-II state quarterfinals. Agawam will prepare to face the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 8 East Longmeadow and No. 9 Boston Latin Academy, with a date and time for the future match yet to be announced.

No. 2 Westfield (3), No. 18 Pioneer Valley Christian Academy (0)

The No. 2 Westfield boys volleyball team swept a familiar opponent in No. 18 Pioneer Valley Christian Academy 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-11) at home in Tuesday’s Division II Round of 16 matchup.

Zachary Kukharchuk earned 14 digs, seven kills, and 2.5 blocks to help the Bombers improve to 20-4. Max Yurtuc was next with 26 assists, eight digs, and 2.5 blocks, while Giovanni Gonzalez compiled three kills, three assists, and one ace.

After Westfield narrowly won the opening set by three points, the home team widened its lead in the second and third sets as they won those by at least 15 points to earn its third consecutive win and 15th season shutout thus far.

The Bombers are one step closer to defending their title, as they will now face No. 7 Longmeadow in the D-II state quarterfinals, with a time and location to be announced.
