It wasn’t looking good for Pope Francis Prep boys hockey — and then Gabe Kolodjay happened.
The Cardinals, in a 2-0 hole entering the third period, needed a spark and Kolodjay delivered. The junior forward netted two goals in the third period to send the game to overtime.
Going into overtime, it became clear nobody was stopping Kolodjay as just 40 seconds into extra time he completed the hat trick, burying a game winner to complete the comeback.
While Saint John’s couldn’t close out the win, the Pioneers started strong with two goals in the opening frame. Matthew McGinty and Brady Chenevert both found the back of the net to give their team an early two-goal lead.
Pope Francis Prep will now head out to BC High for a road matchup on Dec. 20 at 5:00 p.m. Saint John’s will look to shake off this loss on Dec. 23 against Arlington Catholic at 2:00 p.m.
