Freetown police find murder suspect hiding in a shed on Wednesday, DA says

A Freetown man, whom police searched for and found in a shed, will be arraigned on Wednesday at Fall River District Court in connection with the death of a woman, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s office has announced.

Matthew Lucas, 54, will be charged with murder in connection with the death of Heidi Chace, 44, Quinn’s office said.

Freetown police were called to 92 Chace Road in East Freetown at around 4:24 a.m. on Wednesday, where they found Chace’s body, Quinn’s office said.

Police found that Lucas also lived at the address and believed him to be the suspect, the district attorney’s office said. A quick search led police to Lucas’ location — a shed on Burns Lane at around 8:40 a.m., roughly a mile away.

Lucas is expected to be arraigned at Fall River District Court.
