Forest Park Civic Association Upcoming Public Meeting about the Construction Plans for the X

Springfield – The Forest Park Civic Association is hosting a free community forum and informational meeting on the major reconstruction of the “X” intersection at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25. The event, open to all, will be held at 52Sumner (the former Faith Church) at 52 Sumner Ave. The speakers include Christopher Cignoli, Director of Public Works in Springfield, and Alex Sherman, the Springfield City Forester. They will present plans for the project, including what changes are being made to better accommodate pedestrians, bicycles, and cars, and how the construction schedule is likely to affect traffic and businesses beginning this spring.

The ”X” Reconstruction Project is long in the making, with funding coming from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Information about the project can be found on the City’s website at https://www.springfield-ma.gov/dpw/dpw-projects/projects-in-design-phase/the-x.

Attendees are encouraged to use the front Sumner Avenue entrance, with parking available across the street at the Sumner Avenue School. Access for people with mobility challenges is available through the rear of the building, with handicapped parking available in the lot behind 52Sumner, off of Fort Pleasant Avenue.

Questions about the event may be directed to Phil Contant at classicalpac@msn.com or to Stephen Posner at sepposner@gmail.com, both board members of the Forest Park Civic Association.
