Catholic Memorial and Saint John’s (Shrewsbury) baseball teams were tied and headed into the final inning Wednesday afternoon.
Both teams battled throughout the contest, matching each other run for run.
At the top of the seventh, the Crusaders (5-7) found a spark on offense and scored the go-ahead run to defeat the Pioneers (11-2) by a final score of 4-3.
Batting for Catholic Memorial, Liam McKinney notched two hits, two runs, and one RBI. Carson McCarthy tallied two hits and two RBIs, Marshall Kehlhem secured one run and one hit, and Estiben Cruz Piñatas crossed home for one run scored.
On the mound for the Crusaders, Liam Fitzmaurice pitched the whole game, allowing five hits and three runs against a tough Saint John’s (Shrewsbury) team.
Catholic Memorial broke the Pioneers’ five-game winning streak and will carry that momentum when they face Xaverian on Monday at 4 p.m., while Saint John’s (Shrewsbury) will look to bounce back on Thursday at home against Chelmsford at the same scheduled time.
