The Pope Francis softball team scored eight of its nine total runs in the first three innings and held onto the commanding lead, despite a Belchertown response.
The Orioles (7-3) outscored the Cardinals (9-2), 7-1 in the innings to follow, but Pope Francis prevailed 9-7 for its third straight victory on Wednesday.
For the Cardinals, Taylor Moreau dominated at-bat, notching team-highs with four hits, five RBIs, and two runsscored. Julia Bonfitto also led Pope Francis with three runs scored and three singles.
As for Belchertown, Kina Roy recorded three hits to lead her team. All seven runs by the Orioles were scored by seven different players.
Emily Waller (2-for-3), Sophia Mitus (2-for-5), Lila Roy (2-for-4), and Vivian Ross (2-for-4) earned eight of their team’s 15 combined hits to ensure those members also had multi-hit performances.
The Cardinals have a quick turnaround and will travel to Renaissance on Thursday. Belchertown’s loss broke its five-game win streak as it prepares to host Springfield International Charter on Friday.
The first pitches for both games are set at 4 p.m.
