Some parts of Massachusetts could see rain Wednesday evening, after what National Weather Service forecasters expect to be a cloudy but seasonably warm day.
The chance for rain can be attributed to the movement of an area of high pressure further east, allowing a subtropical low to make its way to the northeast from the mid-Atlantic. Rain is likeliest to fall over the South Coast and Cape and Islands, but totals are expected to remain well below an inch.
Showers could linger into Thursday morning, but should end by the early afternoon. In the wake of the rain, clear skies will break through first in Western Massachusetts, then move east, bringing temperatures in the high 70s or even low 80s.
More warm and dry conditions are expected Friday, with daytime highs climbing to the upper 70s. But a colder air mass will settle in Friday night, dropping temperatures to the low 40s or even 30s in some parts of the state.
That cooler air mass will remain in place on Saturday, bringing a taste of fall.
“Highs Saturday only get into the upper 60s, even struggling to reach 70,” forecasters wrote.
Temperatures should rise on Sunday as high pressure begins to move east. A southerly wind will kick in for the start of the work week, increasing temperatures. Forecasters say there is a 35 to 50% chance of temperatures above 80 by Tuesday afternoon.
