Game of the week: Saint John’s Shrewsbury at Xaverian, Monday, May 19 at 4 p.m.
Through the first six weeks of the Catholic Conference baseball power rankings, the Saint John’s Shrewsbury Pioneers have only held the No. 1 spot.
In a relatively slow week last week, the Pioneers took care of business, beating the Lancers 15-0 in their only game.
Xaverian, who has been just behind Saint John’s, moved back to the second spot this week with a 1-0 victory of St. John’s Prep last Wednesday.
The top spot for next week will be in play when the Hawks and the Pioneers face off on Monday.
Although they fell to Xaverian, Prep did beat their fellow Eagles on Sunday, 6-0 to take the No. 3 spot this week.
The loss ended a four-game winning streak for BC High who is not in the top half of the conference rankings but is still one of the better teams in the state.
Catholic Memorial has been quite difficult to pin down. After wins against both Saint John’s and Xaverian, CM fell to BC High and then Malden Catholic on Monday.
The most recent loss sends them back down from second to fifth in this week’s rankings.
