LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department released body-worn camera video showing an officer-involved shooting of a suspected child abductor who fled from officers before reaching into a backpack, KCAL reported.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the pursuit began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle linked to a felony warrant for alleged child abduction. After initially pulling over, the driver fled, prompting a high-speed pursuit.
After driving erratically, the suspect entered the 105 Freeway heading eastbound before making a sudden U-turn, stopping the vehicle, then fleeing on foot in the westbound direction, LAPD officials said.
Officers instructed the man to stop fleeing and to get on the ground, but the man did not comply.
As the suspect ran, video shows him reaching into a backpack he was carrying. Officers opened fire, striking him.
Briseno was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later booked in connection to the warrant. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed. No firearm was found at the scene or inside the backpack, authorities confirmed.
