BWC: Murder suspect points gun at Indianapolis officer before OIS

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released body-worn camera footage from a critical incident in which an officer shot and wounded an armed suspect following a shooting that left two men dead, WRTV reported.

According to IMPD, officers from the Southeast District were dispatched to a report of a person shot on March 28. Upon arrival, officers found two adult male victims who had sustained gunshot wounds.

One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the report. The man who survived the initial shooting succumbed to his injuries several months later.

Officers started to search for a suspect, aided by community members who pointed officers in the direction of a man who fled the scene.

Body camera footage released on Sept. 5 shows the man reaching into his waistband as an officer instructed him to put his hands up. The officer fired shots after the man pulled out a gun and pointed at him.

Medical aid was immediately rendered at the scene before the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition. No officers were injured in the confrontation.

The suspect was arrested and charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. On August 4, he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and was sentenced to 90 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections, according to the report.
