BWC: Man attempts to stab Okla. officer before fatal OIS

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Police Department released body camera footage showing an officer-involved shooting of a man after he charged at officers with a knife during a response to a reported suicide attempt, News on 6 reported.

The June 4 incident occurred when officers were dispatched to a home following a call about a suicide attempt. A family member was reportedly assaulted while trying to intervene.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, a man ran out of the residence armed with a knife as officers arrived.

He ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and immediately attempted to stab an officer standing at the door.

The knife struck the officer’s radio holder, preventing a stab wound.

Body-worn camera footage shows several officers opening fire before providing immediate medical aid. The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the rapid escalation of the incident left no opportunity to de-escalate due to the immediate threat posed
