The Springfield Cultural Council has set an Oct. 16 as the deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants supporting community cultural activities.

These grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Springfield, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, performances in schools, workshops and lectures.

The Springfield Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the commonwealth. The LCC Program is the nation’s largest grassroots cultural funding network supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities and sciences every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to Mass Cultural Council — a state agency that allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Springfield Cultural Council will distribute about $258,500 in grants. For local guidelines, and complete information on the Springfield Cultural Council, contact Andrew Cade at 413-262-1429. Holyoke’s Tourism Advisory Committee announces three tourism-related initiatives that aim to support local retail businesses and restaurants this fall and winter season and the launch of the Puerto Rican Cultural District.

The initiatives are:

— 2025 Doors Open Holyoke, back for its fifth year. This annual event returns Saturday, Oct. 11, as part of the third annual Day in The Yoke. The day will include The Great Holyoke Brick Race, the Paper City Food Festival, and more events that showcase Holyoke’s creative, cultural and culinary side.

— Holidays in Holyoke is a citywide initiative that brings together cultural traditions, local businesses and community celebrations from early November through January. From the colorful marigolds and community Ofrenda of Día de los Muertos, to shopping local on Small Business Saturday, to the beloved Tree Lighting and Puerto Rican holiday festivities, and culminating with Three Kings Day and Las Octavitas, Holidays in Holyoke highlights the city’s cultural heritage and community spirit.

— Step Out Holyoke, a variety of locally owned and operated small businesses throughout the city of Holyoke are banding together to promote a more healthy lifestyle for its residents and visitors. On first Saturday of the month starting in January 2026, incentive-laden experiences will be packaged and offered at discount to individuals and groups who’d like to explore recreational and fitness-focused activities throughout the city coupled with a snack or meal at one of its many eateries, farmers markets and food-focused establishments.
