Game 1 of the Pat Maroon era for the Bruins drew solid reviews from his new team.
Sixty-five days after undergoing back surgery and 36 days after being traded to Boston, Maroon made his debut for the Bruins, seven days before the start of the playoffs.

In the No. 61 jersey last worn by Rick Nash, Maroon started the game at right wing on the fourth line with Jesper Boqvist and Jakub Lauko and played net-front on the second power-play unit.
“I thought he was very effective for us. Managed the game really well. You can see why he’s won a lot because of the way he manages the game,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. “Changes at the right time. Put pucks to good areas. I thought him and Boqvist and Lauko together were good and I thought when we put (Johnny) Beecher (for Lauko) there I thought they were good with Beecher as well. It was good to see.”
Maroon played 17 shifts for 13:16 including 2:20 on the power play. He took one shot and had four hits. The three-time Stanley Cup winner turns 36 next week.
“He was great. Competed hard. He was great in the room and on the bench,” Bruins captain Brad Marchand said. “Great guy to have around. I liked his first game. I’m sure I’ll continue to feel better as he goes on and plays more, but a great fit for the group.”
