BOSTON — With the NHL Draft behind them, the Bruins front office can turn its attention to other roster-building tasks.
General manager Don Sweeney said fans might not have to wait long for news.
Sweeney hinted that there could be contract news shortly about one of the Bruins’ restricted free agents, but wouldn’t say which one,
While it’s possible that news could be about Morgan Geekie, who is coming off of a breakout year and is Boston’s highest-profile RFA. But Sweeney said Wednesday that nothing was imminent there. Unless there was considerable movement during the draft, it seems more likely it was about somebody else.
Marat Khustutdinov, Johnny Beecher and Jakub Lauko are also restricted free agents.
“We’re trying to chip away at that. We may have some information on that in the next day,” Sweeney said. “We’ll start to fill out our roster.”
Teams and RFAs can file for arbitration this week.
Sweeney said the Bruins continue to negotiate with unrestricted free agent Henri Jokiharju as well.
Sweeney also said the Bruins had been engaged in trade discussions as well and thought they could make a move before free agency begins on Tuesday.
“We’ve explored, obviously trading, in and around the draft and bringing players in. We had a couple of those things that we looked at,” Sweeney said. “They may come to bare over the next day as well. We’ll foray into free agency if we haven’t filled those holes via trade.”
