A Boston federal judge continued the sentencing hearing for former Boston City Councilor Tania Feranades Anderson, who pleaded guilty to corruption charges in May.
On Friday, Judge Indira Talwani approved a motion from Fernandes Anderson’s attorney, Scott Lauer, requesting a continuance. According to the motion, Anderson “recently submitted a response, including a variety of requested documentation, to the probation office.”
“The probation office has advised … that additional time would be helpful to complete its review of that documentation and update the draft presentence report,” the motion continued.
Fernandes Anderson was arrested in December on charges that she ran a kickback scheme with a family member whom she employed in her City Hall office. Prosecutors alleged she used public funds to help with her own financial struggles.
She pleaded guilty in May to one count of wire fraud and one count of theft involving federal funds.
As part of her plea agreement, prosecutors dropped four of the charges against her and recommended a sentence of one year and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $13,000 fine.
She was scheduled to be sentenced on July 29, but Talwani rescheduled the hearing for Sept. 5.
The councilor, who was first elected in 2021, resigned from the council on July 4.
