Typically, when a number-one team loses two games in a row, it’s usually going to be bumped from the top.
This week may be the exception.
In a span of eight days, the Needham Rockets dropped back-to-back games against Bishop Feehan. While both games were decided by double-digits, neither is really a bad loss.
The Shamrocks are ranked second in the MIAA’s power rankings for Division I and feature one of the best players in the state in Mollie Mullen. In the second matchup, Needham did not have senior captain Hannah Levine, who was out due to illness.
- Needham (9-2, No. 2)
- Natick (10-1, No. 1)
- Walpole (7-3, No. 4)
- Braintree (7-3, No. 3)
- Brookline (6-4, No. 5)
- Milton (6-7, No. 7)
- Newton North (4-7, No. 6)
- Wellesley (2-7, No. 8)
- Weymouth (1-7, No. 10)
- Framingham (1-10, No. 9)
There wasn’t a whole lot of movement this week as several teams played multiple games with out-of-conference opponents. Milton dropped below .500 after a pair of losses to Canton and Bridgewater-Raynham Regional.
Walpole was the only team that made a move up in the rankings. The Timberwolves secured their best win of the season with a 55-46 win over the Braintree Wamps. Walpole also took a loss to Bishop Feehan, 50-48.
The Rockets will be praying Levine doesn’t stay sick for long. On Friday, they host Natick for a top matchup that could determine who wins the Bay State Conference. The MIAA currently has Needham ranked third, and Natick ranked sixth.
