Ark. officer dies on duty in vehicle crash

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A police detective has died from injuries he sustained in a vehicle incident in the line of duty, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

Detective James Michael “Mike” Lett was traveling to assist the Benton Police Department’s Drug Take Back program on Oct. 28 when his vehicle hydroplaned and struck a guardrail.

Lett was a United States Air Force veteran and had served in law enforcement for 30 years for different agencies.

He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 8.

Lett was a United States Air Force veteran and had served in law enforcement for 30 years for different agencies, including the Benton Police Department, Saline County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office.

Lett is survived by his five children, two grandchildren, parents and two sisters.
