FOXBOROUGH – Hopefully there weren’t too many Christian Gonzalez jerseys sold this summer.
The Patriots first-round pick has yet another new jersey number and this time, it’ll stick. On Thursday, Gonzalez was issued No. 6 after previously wearing 19 this preseason. The cornerback started with No. 50 this offseason, so this latest number marks his third different jersey change.
Gonzalez wasn’t the only rookie to get a new number. Patriots punter Bryce Baringer will wear No. 6 this season after donning Matthew Judon’s No. 9 in the preseason. Kicker Chad Ryland’s number will officially be 37 after wearing No. 38, which belongs to Rhamondre Stevenson. Offensive tackle Sidy Sow now wears No. 62 after having No. 61.

The Patriots held their final practice of the week on Thursday. This session was held inside Gillette Stadium, and it appeared that the team would have a blue-white scrimmage. The Patriots were missing five total players – DeVante Parker, Riley Reiff, James Ferentz, Ronnie Perkins, and Tyquan Thornton, who is headed to the injured reserve.
According to a source, Parker’s absence isn’t related to anything serious, and the receiver is ‘OK.’
The Patriots are expected to place Thornton on the injured reserve this week. When that happens, they’ll have an open spot on their 53-man roster. It’s also worth monitoring whether Reiff lands on the injured reserve as well.
Ferentz and Perkins, who are both on the practice squad, missed their second straight practice.
Patriots players will have a three-day weekend before returning to Gillette Stadium on Monday to continue their preparation for the Philadelphia Eagles.
