The No. 14 Massachusetts Minutewomen’s (17-6, 7-0 A-10) run through the NCAA Tournament came to a heartbreaking conclusion on Friday, as they fell 1-0 to the No. 2 Northwestern Wildcats (22-1, 8-0) in the semifinals at Phyllis Ocker Field.
The Minutewomen relied on their defense and stellar goalkeeping to keep a team that had dominated opponents all season on their toes—holding the nation’s top remaining seed scoreless for nearly 50 minutes before a single strike from the Wildcats ended their dreams of a national title.
