NFL expert says 2024 draft is rich in talent to fill Patriots needs

The Patriots need help in quite a few places in order to revive the roster. Quarterback, wide receiver and offensive tackle are widely considered the chief areas of need.

The good news for Jerod Mayo and whoever else might be pulling the trigger on draft day in April?

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah, one of the top authorities on the draft, indicated during the “Eye on Foxborough” podcast that the draft was flush with players at those specific positions and it was a good year to have those needs.

It’s going to be tough to miss at quarterback, wideout and tackle especially in the first few rounds.

“If you’re going to say you have three needs in this draft,” said Jeremiah, “those are the three needs you want, especially if you’re in position to get one of the quarterbacks.”

Jeremiah has the Patriots taking LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the first pick at No. 3 overall.

As for tackle, after Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, who is likely to be the first off the board, Jeremiah believes there will be plenty to go around.

“I think we’re going to set a record for first round offensive tackles this year,” he said. “I think the record is seven, I want to say. I think we’ll have eight first-round tackles in the first round, and that run will continue a little bit onto the second round as well. So it’s a really deep tackle group.”

Receiver?

After Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., considered the best in the draft, Jeremiah still sees the Patriots being able to land a talented receiver beyond the first round.

“The anomaly will be the year we don’t have good receivers because every college is playing with four or five wideouts. Everybody’s chucking the ball going all the way back to seven-on-seven in middle school and high school,” he said. “Every year we get an influx of talent at wide receiver and this year’s no different.”
