1st amendment advocate scolds Palmer school officials on free speech rules

A Natick woman who won a free speech lawsuit against school officials in her hometown went to Palmer’s School Committee meeting Wednesday to accuse members of silencing the town’s residents.

In a roughly 8-minute, combative exchange with Palmer school officials, Corey Spaulding of Natick scolded members for attempting to shut her down from speaking and said other parents in the district are afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation.

In November 2018, Middlesex Superior Court ruled against school officials in Natick in a lawsuit brought by Spaulding and Karin Sutter, two mothers of former students, who sued over a school policy that was found to unconstitutionally silence speakers at meetings, according to the ACLU, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the parents.
