Hundreds of designer items seized from a Massachusetts house in connection with a $130 million scheme are being forfeited.
In 2021, officials charged seven people in New York with participating in a counterfeit goods scheme in which they imported generic goods into the United States from China, applied brand labels to those goods and then sold those items to retail and wholesale purchasers, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of New York.
The charges included conspiracy to traffic, trafficking in counterfeit goods and money laundering.
The scheme lasted from October 2019 to July 2021, according to officials.
The estimated retail value of the counterfeit-branded goods, had they been genuine, was in excess of $130 million.
Hundreds of the items were seized from a Massachusetts property in Lawrence. They were taken on Aug. 12, 2021. This included 375 Gucci belts, 872 Nike sneakers, 772 adidas Yeezy sneakers and 144 Balenciaga shoes.
Six of the people involved pleaded guilty and were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 30-60 days. The case against Saiyin Hou, 25, was dismissed last month.
Officials filed a forfeiture notice for the money on July 2.
Anyone, other than the defendants in this case, claiming interest in the forfeited property must file an ancillary petition within 60 days.
Hundreds of items were also seized from a property in Connecticut and eight locations in New York.
