You won’t see much of Friday the 13th in 2025. That changes in 2026

You won’t have to face the unlucky Friday the 13th until 2026.

The superstitious day only fell once in 2025, which was in June. And it appeared on the calendar twice in 2024.

However, it’ll appear three times in 2026: February, March and November. It won’t appear in October until 2028 when it’ll be the only time that year.

The “unlucky” day happens at least once a year. But it can happen up to three times a year. On average, one occurs every 212.35 days, according to Britannica.

The day’s association with bad luck is well known but is unclear the exact start, with unlucky references in Christianity and Norse mythology.

However, Stephanie Hall, a specialist at the American Folklife Center of the Library of Congress, said the fears of the day likely started in the 19th century. And that Spanish speaking countries and Greece consider Tuesday the 13th to be unlucky because it combines the symbolism of Mars, the God of War, with the symbolism of 13.

“That is seen as a portent of disaster,” Hall wrote.
