You can now get Drake Maye-themed coffee, thanks to Mass. startup from 2 neighbors

A pair of neighbors who run a small coffee roastery in Marblehead saw people go crazy about the Drake Maye-themed beer and thought, “Why not make a Drake Maye coffee?”

Now, New England Patriots fans can buy bags of “Wake with Drake” while it lasts on Bond Coffee Roasters’ website.

Bond co-founder Chris Buchanan said that Wake with Drake is a blend of Ethiopian beans that falls between a medium roast and a dark roast. It’s a crowd pleaser that’s designed to be appealing to the early morning Dunkin’ crowd who’s getting up early to go to a game.

The package features a quarterback wearing No. 10 in a jersey that may or may not look similar to the Patriots’ red throwback jerseys. Buchanan says that the image is the result of working with multiple AI art generators.

To spread the word about the new blend, Buchanan put out a humorous press release announcing the new coffee.

“We saw the beer and thought, that’s great — but some of us need to be emotionally invested by 9 a.m., not noon. You can’t responsibly place your faith in a (24-year-old) quarterback without coffee,” Buchanan quoted himself as saying in the press release.

Bond also wrote that the Patriots “are reportedly undefeated, winning 100% of their games during the Wake with Drake era.”

Does that mean the Patriots are 1-0 during the “Wake with Drake era?” Sure. But that’s the tongue-in-cheek humor they’re going for.

Buchanan co-founded Bond Coffee Roasters back in September, along with his neighbor, Adam Questad. They’re both dads and have kids who are around the same age. After discovering they both love coffee, they began a “little side hustle, night, weekend-type thing” that became an actual coffee roaster.

Both Buchanan and Questad still have full-time jobs and don’t have a brick-and-mortar location for Bond. Instead, they roast their coffee right in Old Marblehead at Questad’s house.

Buchanan said that he and Questad do a lot of single-origin light roast coffees that tend to be fruitier and different from what you find in grocery stores.

But with Wake with Drake, they’re leaning toward something more familiar.

“We wanted to cut it down a little bit with kind of a more traditional one to make it appealing to the Dunks crowd,” Buchanan said.

The co-founder added that Bond Coffee Roasters isn’t looking to be a “snooty, super-expensive, premium” coffee that drives people off. They just want to show people that there’s a different side of coffee that tastes “different and delicious.”

Bond Coffee Roasters delivers locally in Marblehead and ships anywhere in the country.

If looking to purchase, it’s important to remember that they’re still a small operation. Prices for the coffee range from $19 for orders delivered locally to $29 for a single order shipped.

But act quickly. Quantities are limited. Orders are available solely through the Bond Coffee Roasters website.

“Wake with Drake is available now in limited quantities. Once it’s gone, fans are encouraged to fall back on hope, nostalgia, and whatever coffee they can find,” Buchanan wrote.
