Worcester firefighters battle Main Street blaze for over 12 hours

A fire that broke out near the heart of Worcester on Monday night has left crews still on the scene after 12 hours.

The fire broke out at around 8 p.m. at 821 Main St. according to the Auburn Fire Rescue Department. The location is listed as a commercial strip building that houses several businesses like a pizza shop and hair salon.

Firefighters were ordered out of the building at some point during the blaze when there was a partial floor collapse, WHDH reported. No injuries were reported but by 9 p.m., a third alarm was struck.

Crews were still on the scene as of 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to the Worcester Police Department. The public was advised to avoid the scene, from the areas of May to O’Read streets.

The Worcester Fire and Police Departments did not immediately respond for comment.
