WORCESTER — Kristian Campbell’s lightning-fast rise through the Red Sox minor-league system was unlike the path of most rookies. Campbell never spent more than 56 games at any one minor-league level; even after playing 20 games with the WooSox this season, Campbell has still played more MLB games than he’s played at any one level below the majors.
While the meteoric rise resulted in an eight-year, $60 million contract extension for Campbell, a few months in the majors also revealed some of the places where Campbell needed to grow that weren’t exposed in his year and a half in the minors.
